Abstract

This study attempted to determine how much attention Nigerian newspapers devote to coverage of issues relating to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). One year editions (July 2010 to June 2011) of the Daily Trust and The Guardian, two Nigerian leading newspapers were content analysed, examining the frequency of occurrence of MDGs issues in the said newspapers, the prominence given and the nature of reporting. Findings revealed that MDGs issues were not given prominence; no special attention was given to it. The study thus recommended that measures need to be taken to make journalists to consistently give special recognition to MDGs issues so as to facilitate its attainment by the year 2015. The study was guided by the Agenda Setting Theory.
