Abstract

A nation’s national values are fundamental guides for leadership. Good leadership does not exist outside the circle of national values as defined and set by a people. In order to re-orient and project the virtues of national values for leadership, the media are imperatives. Based on analytical and exploratory review of literature, this study examines the roles of the media in national values as framework for leadership. The study adopted different theoretical approaches to analyse the concepts of national values, leadership and the media.  It was established that leadership is tied to national values as defined by the people. Leadership takes its principles from values associated with the people. The media are expected to promote the ideology of national values which brings about good leadership. The paper calls for values-based leadership.
